Sedation

IV Conscious / Moderate Sedation

  1. Understand: Conscious IV sedation is used to help patients relax during dental procedures, reducing anxiety and discomfort. It’s ideal for those with dental phobia, undergoing complex procedures, and patients with a severe gag reflex or who need help staying still.
  2. Delivery: The sedative is administered intravenously, allowing for quick onset and precise control. Patients remain awake but deeply relaxed, responsive to commands, and comfortable throughout the procedure.
  3. Time: The duration of sedation is case-dependent but typically lasts between 2 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the dental treatment.
  4. Transportation: Due to the lingering effects of sedation, patients cannot drive themselves home after the procedure. It’s essential to arrange for a responsible adult to provide transportation and accompany the patient until the sedative effects wear off.

Minimal Sedation

Nitrous Oxide
  1. Understand: Nitrous Oxide Sedation is mixed with oxygen to create a safe-to-inhale mild sedative that assists with dental anxiety.

  1. Delivery: You inhale the gas from a mask that sits over your nose. This gas has no color, but a sweet aroma.

  1. Time: Within 2-3 minutes you will begin to feel calm and relaxed.

  1. Transportation: Upon completion of your dental treatment the gas will take 3-5 minutes to be eliminated from your body, meaning you are able to drive home safely.
